After two long flights, we finally arrived in Great Britain, a country we have expected for five months. Although heat wave was sweeping in China thousands of miles away, I could already feel the coolness of autumn here. The clouds here seemed to be thicker, stacked yet contoured, making people fascinated. People on the streets rode bicycles or motorcycles, as free as the wind. What cannot be missed is the classic fish&chips. Golden crisp French fries, absolutely fresh deep sea cod, with their best partner of squeezed lemon juice …How delicious it is!
The story of Oxford begins with the tower commemorating the martyr bishop where it is like Alice's wonder dream or Harry Potter's magical world ... (because it is the location of the shooting). With an endless stream of visitors and the weddings in the church, this city, with a tradition of learning, becomes more suitable for daily life.
London boasts a perfect integration of modern technology and traditional buildings. Walking along the river, we amazed at all the scenery, such as the British Museum and the National Gallery. Every piece of collection is a rare treasury for the story behind it for a thousand years. Today it is at the right time that they tell you such stories. You’d better listen to them with some wine, wouldn’t you?
The next station was the University of Cambridge where we would study and live. It is the place where Hawking observed astronomical phenomena, Gandhi studied the law, and XU Zhimo was punting! Following these great men, we were also watching the stars at night, studying the law, and poling a long pole ... Did we seem to be as good as those men?
I watched Macbeth in the park where the cold wind whistled. Although shivering with cold, I could recall each outbreak of plot and characters' emotions that made me felt so satisfied. There were too many such experiences, for example, Magistrates and Crown Court, distinctive dinner in town, botanical gardens, museums and bowling in video arcades.
Unforgettable memories
Girton College is as mysterious as Hogwarts among the 31 colleges in the University of Cambridge. Actually, there are intricate cloisters and vast woodlands, pastures, farmlands, orchards and gardens. And there is a legend that a mummy called Hermione come here on each Thursday. However, what makes this place mysterious has other reasons.
In Gordon College, our life and our thoughts were very complicated. When we played baseball or football, what we thought about was the stars and the moon in the sky as well as geometry. I mean our thoughts never stay too much in books and handouts but billiards or table soccer, shopping, piano or small gymnasium in the antique classroom or library when we were looking out the window. In Cafeteria, it was often an adventure. For example, at that night in the bar, the quiz was so difficult that it cannot be answered. We dressed formally but only for dinner and afternoon tea in the garden. The single dormitory, and Beijing Normal University's expensive beds, were very good, making it difficult for us to choose. There were many lovely animals such as squirrels and rabbits. But what made them lovely might be our love for the college. That is to say, love me love my dog. In short, it was probably a magic place here.
The British legal system was really refreshing, and so was the classroom. In the constitution class, we passed the historical corridor from Magna Carta to Brexit, and from parliament to the court. In the English class, the childlike teacher vividly talked about the battle between cakes and biscuits. In the civil law class, we prepared a fresh mooting court and the teacher was so handsome in the court. In the criminal law class, we embraced surprise and laughter from mini debating contest and what teacher talked about. Although the greatest gains may vary from person to person, but looking at its laws from that country's perspective is like stepping out of the bondage of a dead well of thought and suddenly enlightened.
